Gothic 1 Remake Grapes: Every Location for Baloro’s Weapon

Almost nobody searches Gothic Remake grapes for fun — you’re stuck on Baloro’s Weapon, which asks for two grapes you can’t find. This page lists every grape location, the fastest pair to grab, what eating one does, and why the spot you remember from the 2001 original is gone.

The 30-second answer

The fastest way to get the grapes Baloro wants

Don’t go castle-hunting. Baloro’s Weapon needs only two Gothic Remake grapes, and both sit in the New Camp’s back yard: grab the open bunch on the wooden plank by the lake near the tavern, then pick Swiney’s locked chest in the Free Mines for the second. That’s your pair — hand them to Baloro in the same mine and you’re done.

Why you're hunting them

What Gothic Remake grapes are actually for

Grapes look like throwaway food, but there's one real reason to care about them: a single New Camp quest, Baloro's Weapon, asks you to bring two.

In the colony there is no shop selling fruit, so Gothic Remake grapes only ever turn up as loose loot — on a table, in a crate, on a plank by the water. As food they do almost nothing: eating a grape gives a small heal-over-time, and the sources that have datamined it don’t even agree on the amount, so it is never a healing item you plan around.

The reason the word “grapes” sends players to a search bar is Baloro’s Weapon. Baloro, found in the Free Mines on the New Camp’s side of the valley, asks for a short shopping list of materials and two grapes are on it. With no quest markers in the remake, “go find grapes” turns into a wild goose chase — which is exactly what the table below fixes.

Every Gothic Remake grapes location, mapped

Four known Gothic Remake grapes spots across New Camp and Old Camp. You only need two for Baloro, so the top two rows are usually all you'll ever visit.

Spot by spot

How to reach each Gothic Remake grapes spot

The table lists them; here is what each pickup actually looks like and the detour each one costs you.

Your New Camp pair — two grapes, no detour

The two grapes Baloro wants are both in the New Camp. The first is the gimme: a bunch sitting on a wooden plank beside a tree by the lake near the tavern, free for the taking. The second is in Swiney’s hut in the same mine, locked in his chest — so this is really a lockpicking job, not a scavenger hunt. Pick the chest with the never-break-a-pick method and you have both Gothic Remake grapes without leaving New Camp ground.

Swiney’s chest and Baloro, same mine

There is a neat shortcut hiding in the geography: Swiney’s chest and Baloro are in the same mine. So the second grape and the quest hand-in are a few steps apart — pick the chest, walk over to Baloro and close out the quest in one trip. If you are still learning the camp, the New Camp guide maps the mine and the tavern lake, and the interactive map lets you pin both grape spots before you set off.

The Old Camp cellar — the reliable backup

Eaten a grape by mistake, or want a spare? The Old Camp castle cellar is the dependable third source: follow the wooden planks down and the grapes wait in a crate near the roasted Scavenger meat, right beside Syra in the castle kitchen. The catch is access — you have to talk your way past Thorus into the Old Camp castle first, which is why this is a backup rather than your opener.

The Water Mages’ table — late and risky

The fourth source only opens up in Chapter 3, when you can reach the Water Mages’ Hall. A grape sits on their dining table, but it’s theirs — sneak in at night when the room is empty and lift it, because getting caught turns the mages hostile. By Chapter 3 you almost certainly finished Baloro’s Weapon long ago, so treat this one as trivia unless you’re a completionist. Planning a magic run instead? The mage build guide covers joining the Water Circle properly.

Baloro's Weapon, start to finish

Using your Gothic Remake grapes to finish the quest

Grapes are only two items on Baloro's list, but they're the ones that strand people. Here's the whole loop in four steps.

  1. 1 · Pick up the quest from Baloro

Baloro stands in the mine in New Camp territory. He asks you to gather a short list of materials — two Grapes among them — before he'll sort you out with a weapon.

  2. 2 · Grab the two easy grapes first

You only need two. The lakeside plank near New Camp's tavern and Swiney's lockpicked chest in the same mine are the quickest pair — no castle trip required.

  3. 3 · Top up from the Old Camp cellar if needed

Eaten a grape by accident, or want spares? The crate beside Syra in the Old Camp castle cellar is the reliable backup, with the Water Mages' table as a late-game option in Chapter 3.

  4. 4 · Return to Baloro in the mine

Hand the grapes and the rest of the materials back to Baloro where you found him to close out Baloro's Weapon.

Why the grapes moved from the original to the remake

If you played Gothic in 2001 and went straight to the old source, that's why you came up empty.

Here is the trap for veterans: in the 2001 original, Wolf simply carried grapes, so getting them was a conversation. In the Gothic 1 Remake, Wolf no longer has them. Alkimia scattered grapes out into the world instead — the lake plank, Swiney’s chest, the castle cellar and the mages’ table — so muscle memory from the old game leads you nowhere. If you remembered grapes as a one-line errand and can’t work out where they went, that change is the answer.

It fits a wider pattern in the remake, which loves to take a 2001 shortcut and turn it into a small expedition. The same instinct shows up in how the quests and chapters were re-cut and gated, and in the way classic camps were rebuilt — the Old Camp castle you now have to earn your way into is a prime example. Grapes are a tiny version of the same design: more world, fewer free handouts.

Quick answers

Gothic Remake grapes FAQ

Where do you find grapes in Gothic 1 Remake?

There are four known spots: a wooden plank by the lake near the New Camp tavern, Swiney's locked chest in the mine, a crate beside Syra in the Old Camp castle cellar, and the Water Mages' dining table in Chapter 3. The plank plus Swiney's chest is the fastest way to get the two grapes Baloro's Weapon needs.

How many grapes do you need in Gothic 1 Remake?

Two. Baloro's Weapon is the only quest that asks for grapes, and it wants two of them among its materials. The lakeside plank and Swiney's chest in New Camp cover both without leaving the area.

What is the Baloro's Weapon quest in Gothic 1 Remake?

Baloro, found in the mine, asks you to bring him a short list of materials — including two grapes — in exchange for a weapon. Gather the items and return to him there to complete it.

Does Wolf still give you grapes in Gothic 1 Remake?

No. In the 2001 original Wolf carried grapes, but in the remake he no longer does. You now collect them yourself from the lake plank, Swiney's chest, the Old Camp cellar or the Water Mages' table.

Can you eat grapes in Gothic 1 Remake?

Yes — grapes are a minor food item that gives a small heal-over-time when eaten, but the exact amount differs between sources. Because you only find a handful and Baloro's Weapon needs two, it is usually smarter to save them than to snack on them.

How do you open Swiney's chest for the grapes?

Swiney's chest in the mine is locked, so you pick it. Bring lockpicks and use the remake's slider-lock method so you don't snap them all — the lockpicking guide covers the never-break-a-pick approach.
